《孫子兵法》是中國現存最早的兵書，也是世界上最早的軍事著作。因其內容博大精深，思想精邃富贍，邏輯縝密嚴謹，被譽為中國古代兵學殿堂的奠基石，與普魯士軍事理論家卡爾·馮·克勞塞維茨創作的《戰爭論》合稱“世界兵學雙璧”。我們從書中選取了一批中英文重點例句，和大家分享。

1.故曰：知彼知己者，百戰不殆;不知彼而知己，一勝一負;不知彼不知己，每戰必殆。【白話文】所以說，既了解敵人，又了解自己，百戰都不會有危險;不了解敵人而了解自己，勝與負的可能各有一半，不了解敵人也不了解自己的，每次用兵都會有失敗的危險。

【英譯】Therefore, my advice is: If you know your enemy and know yourself, you will be safe in every battle; if you do not know your enemy but know yourself, your chances of winning and losing will be equal; if you are ignorant of both your enemy and yourself, you will be endangered in every encounter.

2.孫子曰：兵者，國之大事，死生之地，存亡之道，不可不察也。故經之以五事，校之以計，而索其情：一曰道，二曰天，三曰地，四曰將，五曰法。【白話文】孫子說：戰爭是國家的大事，是軍民生死的主宰，關乎國家的存亡，不能不認真地考察研究。因此，必須通過對敵我五個方面情況去分析，從敵我七個方面的得失去比較，來取得對戰爭情勢的正確認識。這五個方面一是道，二是天，三是地，四是將，五是法。

【英譯】Sunzi said: War is a matter of the utmost importance to the state. Life or death hinges on it; it is the road to survival or extinction. It is something that must definitely not be neglected.To do this, it is necessary to examine each war situation from five angles to be taken into account in one's strategic deliberations: Morale, Weather, Terrain, Leadership and Discipline.

3.孫子曰：昔之善戰者，先為不可勝，以待敵之可勝。不可勝在己，可勝在敵。故善戰者，能為不可勝，不能使敵之可勝。故曰：勝可知，而不可為。【白話文】孫子說：從前善于用兵打仗的人，先要創造條件使自己立于不敗之地，然后捕捉時機戰勝敵人。不會被敵人戰勝的主動權掌握在自己手中，能否戰勝敵人則取決于敵人是否有隙可乘。所以，善于作戰的人，能夠創造不被敵人戰勝的條件，但卻不一定能夠做到必定戰勝敵人，所以說，勝利可以預知，但是不可強求。

【英譯】Sunzi said: The skilled warriors of old first made themselves invincible, and then waited for the enemy to bring defeat upon himself. Invincibility depends on oneself, but the enemy’s vulnerability depends upon the enemy himself. Consequently, those skilled in warfare can make themselves invincible, but cannot make the enemy vulnerable. So it can be said that the way to victory can be known in advance, but victory itself cannot be assured.

4.孫子曰：凡治眾如治寡，分數是也;斗眾如斗寡，形名是也;三軍之眾，可使必受敵而無敗者，奇正是也;兵之所加，如以碫投卵者，虛實是也。【白話文】孫子說：管理大部隊如同管理小部隊一樣，這屬于軍隊的組織編制問題;指揮大部隊作戰如同指揮小部隊作戰一樣，這屬于指揮號令問題;整個部隊遭到敵人的進攻而沒有潰散，這屬于“奇正”戰術的變化問題;軍隊對敵實施打擊，如同以石擊卵一樣，這屬于“避實擊虛”原則的正確運用問題。

【英譯】Sunzi said: In principle, managing a large force is the same as managing a small one; it is a matter of organization. Fighting against a large force is no different from fighting against a small one; it is a matter of command signals. An army should be able to repulse any all-out attack, by a combination of "surprise and expectation." Your men should advance like a millstone crushing an egg. That is how the weak overcome the strong.

5.孫子曰：凡先處戰地而待敵者佚，后處戰地而趨戰者勞。故善戰者，致人而不致于人。【白話文】孫子說：通常作戰時，率先占據戰地，就從容不迫，以逸待勞;假若后進入戰地，則倉促應戰，疲勞被動。所以善于指揮作戰的人，總是能夠調動敵人而不被敵人所調動。

【英譯】Sunzi said: He who arrives first at the field of combat may await the enemy relaxed and prepared. He who arrives later and has to rush into battle is weary. Therefore, one who is skilled in warfare draws the enemy to him, and does not allow the enemy to draw him to an engagement.
