炎黃子孫
中華民族把黃帝和炎帝看作自己的祖先。中華民族的子孫不管遷徙到哪里，都把自己稱為炎黃子孫，看作同一血統傳下來的。即使到了外國定居，他們的子孫也希望有機會回中國尋根。

1.炎黃子孫、中華民族、中國人民、中國人，在很多情況下所指的對象是一樣的，都是the Chinese people，但是這些說法在側重點、語氣、感情色彩等方面還是有所區別的，翻譯中如果都譯成the Chinese people 或the Chinese nation，就會失去很多東西，特別是上面第二個句子里的“炎黃子孫”要是也譯成the Chinese people，話就不通了。
2.“炎帝”的譯名是Yandi，“黃帝”可以譯成Huangdi 或the Yellow Emperor，由于“軒轅”是他的名字，所以還可譯成Xuanyuan Huangdi，但不管譯成什么，必須全文譯法一致，否則前面是Huangdi，后面是Xuanyuan Huangdi，就好像變成兩個人了。
3.“軒轅黃帝第五子賜姓張氏”可以有兩種理解，一種是“軒轅黃帝第五子”把“張”這個姓賜給別人，另一種是他被賜姓張。在有條件的情況下，應該查一查有關資料以確定哪一種理解是正確的。下面這個譯文取的是第一種理解，但第二種似更為合理。
4.“族譜”如果一時找不到合適的詞，可以試一試釋意的辦法。
說明1.“族譜”還可用genealogy，如果用釋意的辦法，可以說the historical record of their family tree，或者更為靈活的many Chinese people trace their family trees back to. . . 等。切不可拘泥。曾有學生照搬漢英詞典，把它譯成不無滑稽的their pedigree of a clan。
2.“現存的……就有……的記載”這是漢語說法，如果硬套這個結構，譯成in the existing. . .here is the record that. . .(or: . . .the record of/ about. . .)就太生硬了。
Descendants of Yandi and Huangdi
The Chinese nation regard Yandi and Huangdi as their ancestors. Blood is thicker than water. The descendants of Yandi and Huangdi have tremendous internal cohesion. Through cooperative efforts of the descendants of Yandi and Huangdi inside and outside China, China will surely be built into a more beautiful and more prosperous land.
