Hello Beijing, Hello China. Greetings from Switzerland. And a special hello to all the children and young people who may be watching this show because this day is for you! By now you’ve met your new little friends—the Five Friendlies.
The Five Friendlies are an incredible little family, chosen carefully by Beijing 2008 Olympic Games to represent all of China, and to carry a message of friendship to the children of the world.
If I’ve got my Chinese mythology right, Beibei will bring you prosperity. Jingjing will bring you happiness. Huanhuan will fill you with passion. Yingying will give you good health. And Nini will bring you good luck. How’s that a great blessing.
Beijing is lucky to have so many beautiful animals to represent the Olympic spirit. I love them all. They’re carrying traditional Chinese blessings all over the world. I believe they will become the most popular mascots in Olympic history.
