如何做推測作者態度立場的題目
　　在閱讀理解問題中我們經常看到這類問題：
　　The author's attitude towards．．．can be best summarized as.
　　The tone of this passage is best described as.
　　這種問題的選擇項往往是單個詞組成的。如：
　　According to the passage， the author's attitude towards the early computers can best be described as.
　　A)indifferent B) ambiguous C) contemptuous D) hostile
　　由于這些詞高度概括了作者的態度，因此，如不清楚這些詞的釋義，含義，就不可能答對問題。我們把這些詞按經常一起出現的頻率分為幾大類：
　　A
　　pomtive肯定的，贊成的 approving贊成的
　　negative否定的，反對的 critical批評的
　　questioning質問的 neutral中立的
　　detached不偏不倚的 suspicious懷疑的
　　doubtful不敢肯定的 compromising妥協的
　　tolerant忍讓的
　　B
　　indifferent不感興趣的，不偏不倚的 unconcerned不關心的
　　concerned關注的 worried擔憂的
　　pessimistic悲觀的 depressed沮喪的
　　confident有信心的 optimistic樂觀的
　　interested感興趣的 impressed有深刻印象的
　　contemptuous鄙視的 host如有敵意的

　　subjective主觀的 personal有個人觀點，感情的
　　persuasive說服人的 biased帶偏見的
　　opinionated固執己見的 objective客觀的
　　impersonal不帶個人感情的 informative提供信息的
　　factual實事求是的 impartial不偏袒的

　　formal正式的 reverent恭敬的
　　polite拘束的 informal非正式的
　　casual隨便的 familiar熟悉的
　　我們怎么能知道某篇文章的作者態度是肯定的，另一篇文章的作者態度是否定或中立的。這主要從作者的文章觀點，從作者的論述方法，從作者的遣詞措辭，從作者的語氣等方面推斷出來的。例如
　　A．positive
　　After careful examination of the constitutional issues involved, the mayor, responding to the people's wishes, has announced that he will take immediate action.
　　B negative
　　After hesitating for as long as he dared to, and taking refuge in the ambiguities of the constitution, the mayor has at long last yield to pressure and grudgingly aGREed to try to do something.
　　A、B兩段內容基本相同，但A對市長的態度是肯定的，因為"careful examination"表示認真負責的態度，"responding to the people's wishes"，"take immediate action"表示積極的態度。
　　而B對市長的態度是否定的，因為"hesitating for as long as"表示猶豫不決，盡量拖延，"taking refuge in"反映逃避，回避矛盾的態度，"has at long last yield to pressure"，"grudgingly agreed"表示采取行動是被迫的。
　　這類題目有時問的不是態度 (attitude)，而是語氣 (tone)。
　　但實際上是一回事：作者的語氣或幽默，或嚴肅，或挖苦，或諷刺，都是表明作者的態度，立場和觀點。因此解題的方法和做猜測態度題的方法是一樣的。不過，要了解經常出現在選項中的一些詞的意思。
　　humorous幽默的 mocking嘲笑的
　　serious嚴肅的 cynical玩世不恭的
　　somber嚴峻、冷靜的 sarcastical挖苦的
　　playful開玩笑的 sentimental感傷的
　　bitter尖刻的 emotional動感情的
　　iron讓諷刺的 angry氣憤的
