58. contrast of, contrast between ，contrast to. contrast with表示對比，對照。這些短語主要需注意的是詞性與介詞搭配之間的關系。contrast 用作動詞時，可說contrast X with Y .contrast X and Y ，X contrast (s) with Y。用作名詞時，可說 a/the contrast between/of X and Y , X make ( s ) a contrast to/ with Y , by contrast with X , in contrast to/with X。

　　58. accustom to , adapt to , adjust to, used to , acclimatize to ,habituate to 這些動詞短語都可以表示“ (使) 習慣于”。其中acclimatize to 和habituate to 兩短語的動詞是及物動詞，多用于比較正式的書面語，habituate to更多地以被動形式出現：James has not become acclimatized to long hair. 詹姆士還不習慣留長發。He has habituated himself to working till midnight. 他已經習慣于工作到深夜。它們一般可用accustom to 來換用。

　　accustom to是表示 “使習慣于” 的一般說法，也常以被動形式出現：We are accustomed to working hard. “我們對努力工作習以為常。”

　　used to 用指 “習慣于” 時，used 是動詞過去分詞形式，也就是說該短語以被動形式使用： I’m not used to getting up early. 我不習慣于早起。

　　adapt to表示一種能適應不同情況的能力，不是嚴格意義上的“習慣于” 之意，動詞adapt有及物和不及物兩種用法： The young man from the countryside adapted well to life in the big city. “這個農村青年很能適應大城市的生活。

　　adjust to 強調為適應某種不同情況而進行自我調節，動詞adjust to也有及物和不及物兩種用法：The eyes needed several minutes to adjust to the dimness. 眼睛需要幾分鐘時間來適應昏暗。
